Can I remove a skin tag myself?

It’s one of the most common things I hear:
“I tried twisting it off.”
“I bought one of those little band kits.”
“I thought I’d just cut it off.”
The truth is that many people try DIY methods before they book an appointment.
While some home products claim to remove skin tags, they aren’t suitable for every lesion and it’s important to be confident that what you’re treating really is a harmless skin tag.
Removing the wrong type of lesion yourself can delay the correct diagnosis, while DIY removal can also lead to unnecessary pain, bleeding or infection.
At Tempera Health and Skin Clinic, every appointment starts with an assessment. If I’m happy that the lesion is suitable for cryotherapy, treatment can usually be carried out during the same appointment.
If I’m not confident it’s appropriate to treat, I’ll explain why and advise on the next steps instead.
Most people simply want to stop catching their skin tag on clothing, jewellery or while shaving.
If that’s you, professional treatment may be a safer and more comfortable option than trying to tackle it yourself.

If you’d like to know whether your skin tag is suitable for treatment, get in touch and I’ll be happy to help.
