Can I get rid of a skin tag—or am I stuck with it?

You’ve probably had it for ages. It catches on your bra, gets snagged by your necklace or makes shaving awkward. Every so often you think, “Can I actually get that removed?”
Then you forget about it. Until you catch it again.
The answer is yes—suitable skin tags can be removed. At Tempera Health & Skin Clinic in Overton, near Basingstoke, I offer cryotherapy treatment, with prices starting from £80.
Here’s what’s involved.
Do I have to put up with a skin tag?
Skin tags are common and usually harmless, so there’s no need to remove one simply because it’s there.
But that doesn’t mean you have to ignore something that keeps catching on clothing or bothers you because of where it sits. You can explore removal without needing it to be a major problem first.
The starting point is checking what it is and whether treatment is suitable.
Can you freeze a skin tag off?
Yes—cryotherapy is one option for treating suitable skin tags.
I use a CryoIQ device to apply a controlled freeze to the skin tag. Before treatment, we’ll look at the area, discuss your medical history and talk through what to expect.
Not every raised bump is a skin tag. If there’s uncertainty about what it is, or it needs medical assessment, I’ll explain the next step before any treatment is considered.
Does skin tag removal hurt?
You may feel a sharp, cold sting during treatment, and the area can feel tender afterwards. How it feels varies depending on the size and location of the skin tag and your individual sensitivity.
I’ll explain what I’m doing and give you time to ask questions before we begin.
Will it disappear straight away?
No—the skin tag doesn’t disappear during the appointment. The treated area needs time to respond and heal.
Redness, tenderness, blistering or scabbing can happen afterwards. Changes in skin colour and scarring are also possible, and we’ll discuss these risks before treatment.
Some skin tags need more than one treatment, depending on their size and response. You’ll receive aftercare advice and information about any further treatment costs.
Can I remove a skin tag myself?
It can be tempting to try a home-removal kit, tie it off or snip it away. Please don’t—home removal can cause bleeding, infection and scarring. You also need to be sure that what you’re treating really is a skin tag.
If a growth is getting bigger, becoming painful or bleeding, see your GP before booking cosmetic removal.
How much does skin tag removal cost?
Cryotherapy treatment at Tempera starts from £80.
The cost depends on the number and size of the areas being treated. I’ll confirm the price before treatment, so you can decide whether to go ahead.
Cryotherapy is also available for suitable warts and verrucae.
