Can You Remove a Mole With Cryotherapy?

If you have a mole that bothers you, it can be tempting to simply have it removed. But before treating any pigmented lesion, the important bit comes first — making sure it’s appropriate to remove.

A recent client had been concerned about a mole on her neck for some time. It wasn’t necessarily causing a problem, but it was something she was very aware of and wanted checked.

Rather than going straight ahead with treatment, we used Map My Mole first.

Map My Mole allows images of a mole or skin lesion to be reviewed before cosmetic treatment is considered. Once her report came back advising that the lesion was suitable for removal, we could discuss cryotherapy.

Cryotherapy for mole removal

For this client, I used the CryoIQ cryotherapy system, treating the lesion with a freeze–thaw–freeze technique.

She needed just one treatment session, and once the area had gone through the normal healing process, we were left with a really lovely result.

Of course, one session isn’t guaranteed for every lesion. The number of treatments required depends on the type, size and depth of the lesion and how it responds.

Why I check before I treat

Not every mole or skin lesion that someone wants removed should be treated with cryotherapy.

If there is any uncertainty about a lesion, cosmetic removal isn’t the first step. It needs appropriate assessment instead.

That’s why at Tempera Health & Skin Clinic in Overton, assessment comes before treatment. If I’m not happy that something is suitable for cryotherapy, I won’t freeze it.
