Not Sure Which Skin Treatment You Need? Start With a Consultation

If you know you would like to improve your skin but have absolutely no idea whether you should be booking microneedling, a chemical peel, dermaplaning or something else, you are definitely not alone.
There are now so many different skin treatments available — and an equally impressive amount of information about them online.
Some of it is useful. Some of it makes treatments sound considerably more dramatic than they actually are.
You don’t need to choose your treatment first
One of the reasons I offer skin consultations at my clinic in Overton is that I don’t expect you to arrive already knowing which treatment you need, it makes much more sense to start with your skin and what you would actually like to improve.
That might be things such as:
skin texture or dullness
pigmentation
fine lines and signs of ageing
congestion or breakouts
general skin condition
wanting healthier, brighter-looking skin
From there, we can discuss the different options and decide what is appropriate for you.
What about the downtime?
This is one of the biggest concerns people have when they start considering more advanced skin treatments.
Microneedling is a good example.
People sometimes assume that having microneedling means they won’t be able to leave the house for a week afterwards. In reality, some redness and sensitivity following treatment is expected, but recovery varies and it doesn’t automatically mean a week of hiding away.
The same applies to chemical peels.
The words chemical peel can conjure up images of sheets of skin falling off your face, but peels come in different types and strengths. The amount of visible peeling and downtime varies depending on the treatment being used and the individual skin.
This is exactly the sort of thing we can discuss before you decide to go ahead.
Choosing a treatment that fits your life
A treatment can be technically suitable for your skin and still not be the right choice for you at that particular time.
If you’ve got an important event coming up, don’t want visible downtime or simply want to start gently, that matters.
During a consultation we can talk about your skin concerns, your goals, previous treatments, expected downtime and what you’re comfortable with.
Sometimes the best plan isn’t the most intensive treatment. It’s the one you’re actually comfortable having and can maintain.
