Private blood testing: what can you actually test for?

If you’ve ever looked into private blood testing, you’ll know there are a LOT of options.
Full health checks, hormones, thyroid, vitamins, cholesterol, testosterone… it can very quickly become a case of “I have absolutely no idea what I’m supposed to book.”
So here’s the simple version.
At Tempera Health & Skin in Overton, private blood testing is available for people who want to take a closer look at different areas of their health and wellbeing.
General health and wellbeing
If you don’t have one particular concern but would like a broader overview, a general health profile can look at a combination of markers rather than focusing on one specific area.
There are also more comprehensive men’s and women’s health profiles available.
Vitamins and nutritional markers
Blood testing can look at levels of individual vitamins and other nutritional markers, including vitamin B12, vitamin D, folate and iron-related markers, depending on the profile selected.
This can be useful if you want actual information about your levels rather than simply guessing whether supplementation might be appropriate.
Thyroid function
Thyroid blood tests can measure markers associated with how your thyroid is functioning.
Different levels of testing are available, from basic thyroid profiles through to more detailed options depending on what information is required.
Cholesterol and cardiovascular health
Blood tests can also look at cholesterol and other markers associated with cardiovascular health.
Again, there are different profiles available depending on how much detail you’re looking for.
Hormones and testosterone
Hormone testing isn’t just one blood test.
There are different profiles for men and women, including testosterone testing and broader hormone panels. The most appropriate option depends on what you actually want to investigate.
Liver and kidney function
Liver and kidney markers can be tested individually or included as part of broader health and wellbeing profiles.
So… which blood test should I book?
This is probably the question I get asked most.
And the answer is: you don’t necessarily need to know.
If you already know exactly which test or profile you need, brilliant.
If you don’t, get in touch and tell me what you’re looking to find out. I can explain the different testing options available so you can decide which is most appropriate for you.
Blood samples are taken at my private clinic at No.1 George Street in Overton, near Basingstoke, and sent to a partner laboratory for analysis.
Private blood testing is available by appointment.
